About The Position

Description Primary Duties and Responsibilities Participates as member of the surgical team under direct supervision of an RN/Charge Nurse or Clinical Manager. Functions in the role of scrub/assist person and assisting physician and/or RN. Responsible for direct and indirect care of patients. Assists with maintenance, care of instruments, supplies and equipment according to the manufacturers’ instructions, standards of infection prevention, and institutional policies/procedures. Practices appropriate initiation and maintenance of sponge, needle and miscellaneous item counts and equipment according to policy. Decontaminates, cleans, and cares for operating room equipment utilizing clean/sterile technique used in a procedural setting. Identifies, gathers, and prepares instrument and equipment and specialty items for all procedures in a timely manner according to preference card. Acknowledges physiologic needs for the patient (size of equipment, maintenance of body temperature and patient safety). Demonstrates and maintains competency as an expert in 3 or more specialties/service lines (e.g., Thoracic, Ortho, Spine, ENT). Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and steps for routine or complex procedures. Describes, utilizes and monitors clean/sterile technique used in a procedural setting. Maintains a working knowledge of current practice issues related to the assigned field of departmental and organization standards, policies and procedures. May require on call duty. Performs other duties as assigned. The Technician IV acts as a preceptor to other staff and takes a prominent role in orientation and cross training of staff and students; assists manager & educator with development and monitoring staff practices. Assists in development of educational programs. Serves as resource for staff in specialty area. Assist appropriate clinical resource in developing service line & quality improvement tools. Maintains preference cards. Leads and mentors all lower level staff. Participates in a department Quality Improvement team/initiative. Participates in development of drills and simulations as needed.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Scrub Technician program or equivalent military medical core training (not required for GI Lab)
  • Minimum three years Surgery Tech/ scrub experience within an ambulatory or acute healthcare environment.
  • Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional Organizational systems (Affinity, SMS, and PACS)
  • Required BLS Certifications

Nice To Haves

  • Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates preferred
  • Certification as Surgical Technologist
