Serves as the primary contact for patients expressing interest in surgery. Participates in monthly seminars to potential patients and initiates contact after attendance. Maintains contact with patients requiring ongoing support and acts as a resource throughout the process. Refers patients to appropriate specialty resources or interdisciplinary team members as appropriate. Assists patients with health insurance requirements, financial arrangements, and financial assistance options. Coordinates necessary resources and services to obtain approval for surgery. Works with surgeon's office to ensure that insurance requirements for surgery are met prior to the patient being approved for surgery. Works with primary care referral sources and participates in on-site primary care education. Participates in weekly interdisciplinary team conference, evaluating patient's readiness for surgery. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
