The Operating Room department at Indian River Hospital is looking to add a Surgery Scheduler to the team. In this role, you will serve as the central command hub for operating room operations, managing complex block schedules and coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff to optimize surgical flow and minimize delays. You will actively track surgical timelines throughout the day, monitoring case progress and communicating real-time updates between surgical teams, anesthesia providers, and support staff to ensure seamless transitions between procedures. Additionally, you will coordinate with medical device vendors and equipment representatives, manage last-minute schedule changes, and facilitate critical communication between all stakeholders to maintain efficient OR utilization and patient safety. A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 6:00AM - 11:00AM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to type 40WPM

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience working as a secretary in an acute care imaging setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Medical Terminology and computer background

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to department associates and medical staff to improve patient care and workflow.
  • Perform secretarial and administrative duties.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to develop and implement methods to achieve established goals and objectives.
  • Deliver imaging materials to other departments and nursing units as requested.
  • Conduct data entry and retrieval of information from the appropriate information systems.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in the work area with items necessary to perform the daily schedule and advise a supervisor of any items needed from materials management or vendor.
  • Submit ideas for quality or performance improvement for department operations.
  • Provide customer service by answering and routing telephone calls.
  • Orient new personnel and assist in their transition to the work environment as assigned.
  • Aid other caregivers in the department upon completion of responsible duties or as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in monthly department meetings.
