About The Position

The Surgery RN RNFA - Per Diem position involves performing RNFA responsibilities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Nevada, institutional policies and procedures of this facility, and the AORN Position Statement on RN First Assistants. The RNFA collaborates with the surgeon and the healthcare team to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes. It is important to note that the RNFA does not concurrently function as the scrub nurse.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN Recommended Education Standards for RNFA Programs.
  • Current NV Nursing license.
  • Must maintain CNOR and RN Licensure with the required amount of Continuing Education.
  • Certified as a CNOR.
  • BLS and ACLS required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must show initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with people.

Nice To Haves

  • CRNFA certification preferred after meeting eligibility requirements for exam.

Responsibilities

  • Perform RNFA responsibilities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Nevada.
  • Demonstrate RNFA specific clinical skills including handling tissue, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing and tying, and providing hemostasis.
  • Function as an assistant in all surgical specialties at the direction of the attending surgeon.
  • May perform pre and post-operative patient education as designated.
  • Review chart for pertinent data.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment and promoting efficiency in surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort measures to patients and their families.
  • Ensure safety of patients during the use of electrical equipment.
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain up to date accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
