About The Position

The Surgery RN Pre/PACU position is a per diem role based in Gardnerville, NV. This position is designed for registered nurses who will provide care in the pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit. Per diem employees are offered work on an 'as-needed' basis, and in lieu of benefits, a 15% increase will be added to the hourly rate.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current NV Nursing license.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification (PALS may be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to show initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with people.
• Desire to be part of a healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Assess and diagnose patient and family needs to provide quality care.
• Verify patient identity, operative procedure, operative site, surgeon, consents, allergies, NPO status, and last voided time.
• Assess psychological status, including understanding of surgery and anxiety levels.
• Obtain and document pre-operative medical history in accordance with policies.
• Check current history and physical, laboratory results, and execute preoperative orders.
• Review completed chart with the Anesthesiologist as necessary.
• Develop and communicate a realistic plan of care with patients and families.
• Create patient/family teaching and discharge plans.
• Follow procedures for pre-operative anesthesia interventions.
• Implement medical plans of care and nursing interventions.
• Administer medications according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Initiate and maintain IV access as per hospital policy.
• Provide emotional support and comfort measures to patients.
• Document nursing care accurately and maintain up-to-date records.
