The surgery orderly/nursing assistant serves as the primary patient transport person. This role involves assisting with patient care and functioning as a messenger when needed. Responsibilities include transferring, transporting, moving, lifting, and positioning patients, as well as scrubbing for cases if indicated. The surgery orderly is also responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment, which includes stocking designated supplies and assisting with cleaning between surgical procedures. The position requires yearly training on age-specific care and completion of core competencies for the designated patient populations. Adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures is essential, and practice is based on the theoretical framework of nursing at Baptist Health Paducah, including the principles of Relationship-Based Care. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
