As a surgical services nurse at MGMC, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room, providing excellent nursing care during their most vulnerable moments. This includes going over consent forms, answering procedure questions, conducting preoperative assessments, ensuring equipment readiness, and updating family members on surgery status. You will also directly assist the surgeon during the actual surgery.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain focus while multitasking
  • Remain calm under pressure
  • Exercise good judgment in emergency situations
  • ADN Diploma BSN or Foreign Equivalent
  • Current AZ RN license
  • Current American Heart Association BLS card
  • American Heart Association ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures
  • Assist in the operating room and directly assist the surgeon and surgical team during actual surgery
  • Care for patients before, during, and after procedures
  • Go over consent forms and answer patient questions about the procedure
  • Conduct preoperative assessments
  • Update family members on the surgery status during the operation
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans for surgical patients
  • Ensure operating rooms are prepped with all necessary equipment and supplies
  • Demonstrate a high level of compassion for patients
