About The Position

II. JOB DESCRIPTION: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and pulse oximetry). Monitor patient's airway. 2. Monitor and record I & O. 3. Obtain and record blood glucose readings. 4. Initiate CPR. 5. Communicate with patient and/or family. Meet patient needs for courtesy, information, physical care, emotional care, safety, privacy, and confidentiality. Provide information to the patient and/or family to educate them on disease process, hospital stay, and/or procedures and treatments. 6. Transport patients by pushing, pulling, lifting, in a wheelchair, bed, or gurney. 7. Clearly and concisely report significant information to physician, anesthetist, and other healthcare team members. 8. Collect and document patient care information, concisely and legibly, according to hospital and department policy. 9. Administer medications, including narcotics, according to SBAMH policies and procedures. 10. Communicate with coworkers clearly and concisely. 11. Develop and revise nursing care plan; follows patient-specific plan of care. 12. Adhere to departmental and facility infection control procedures and policies (including use of universal/standard policies). 13. Position the patient correctly according to procedure to be performed and physiological principles. 14. Adheres to departmental policy for instrument, sponges, and sharps counts. 15. Participate in quality assessment, assurance, and improvement activities. 16. Handle specimens and cultures according to departmental policies. 17. Notify receiving nursing area of patient's condition and needs prior to transfer. 18. Maintain patient supplies in accordance with routine needs and cases. 19. Participate in the orientation and teaching of newly employed nursing personnel. 20. Responsible and accountable for using work time appropriately by organizing and prioritizing work to complete daily assignments. 21. Participate in nursing projects and/or revision and review of policies and procedures. 22. Prep patients according to policy. 23. Follow policies for Immediate Use sterilization, disinfection, wrapping and packaging of supplies and equipment for sterilization. 24. Demonstrate competency and adherence to standards in aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field. 25. Demonstrate competency in the role of circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse. 26. Start peripheral IV's. 27. Administer IV's and IV medications via peripheral and central line. 28. Provide appropriate anesthesia assistance during intubation and extubation. 29. Is alert to urgent situations. Implements immediate appropriate action. 30. Develop appropriate care plan utilizing physician preference cards. 31. Maintain competency in providing Phase 1 Post Anesthesia Care. 32. Provides for patient safety. 33. Positive and effective interaction with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing. 34. Assess the patient. 35. Coordinate and communicate room assignments and case flow, adjusting as necessary. 36. Manage daily activities including supply tracking and ensuring preparation for upcoming cases 37. Demonstrates mentoring skills and professionalism with interpersonal staff interaction 38. Assist in department meetings and education 39. Monitor staff adherence to policies and procedures 40. Coordinate with Materials Management, ASU, PACU, PCC, and other departments as appropriate 41. Coordinate and communicate scheduling needs and utilization with physicians offices 42. Performs other duties as assigned. II. JOB DESCRIPTION: QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Will be orientated to and maintain competence in working with patients in the following age categories: Surgical Services: Neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Competence at the beginning of employment will be measured through observation during orientation, math and medication administration testing, and review of documentation. Ongoing competence will be measured through observation of clinical practice, observation for performance evaluation, competency in-service and testing, and math and medication administration testing. See attached sheet for other initial and ongoing competence required by each department."

Requirements

  • Graduate of a State Board approved or accredited school of nursing.
  • Must possess three years of experience in perioperative department in Circulator or Circulator/Scrub role.
  • Must demonstrate organizational skills, communication skill, problem solving skills
  • Must possess evidence of current Kansas license or valid temporary permit to practice (if coming from out of state).
  • BLS is required.
  • ACLS required.
