About The Position

The Surgeon is responsible for the care of the pediatric surgical patient. This includes diagnosis, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of surgical problems in prenatal patients, infants, children, adolescents and young adults to correct various conditions, disorders and/or trauma and injuries. The Pediatric Surgeon is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care according to standards of practice. The Physician functions as a member of an inter-disciplinary team within an integrated academic model.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Completion of a certified training program in Pediatric Surgery.
  • BC/BE for the American Board of Pediatric Surgery.
  • Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut.
  • Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years' experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat patients prenatally through adulthood according to evidence-based standards.
  • Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations and perform physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care and documenting in conformity with applicable professional standards, third party payer requirements and the Division’s policies and procedures.
  • Performs appropriate surgical procedures to correct deformations, congenital problems, injuries, or treat illnesses.
  • Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
  • Provide comfort to patients/families before operations.
  • Monitor postoperative recovery and educating family members regarding postoperative care.
  • Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.
  • Actively participates in education of medical students, residents, advanced practitioners and health care staff.
  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all the specialists involved in a child's medical care to determine when or if surgery is an appropriate treatment option, when necessary.
  • Keeps and maintains accurate, complete, appropriate, timely and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.
  • Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Reviews on a regular basis long-term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
  • Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
  • Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
