About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist will work PRN/OCC with variable hours and shifts, including occasional weekday and weekend call. The role involves working in the Surgery and GI Lab. The position requires CST certification and BLS certification. Fort Loudoun Medical Center is a well-equipped facility with a team of over 200 doctors across 29 specialties, featuring advanced technology such as MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and more. The staff is dedicated to providing excellent care to every patient, every time.

Requirements

• Must hold current and active national Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification established by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• BLS certification preferred.
• Minimum education sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the CST certification.
• No prior experience required with certification.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates patient care by assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures by creating and maintaining a sterile field and providing the instruments and supplies required by the surgeons.
• Plans, sets up, performs, and cleans up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and/or as a scrub tech.
• Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and instrumentation pertaining to the case and safely operates special equipment used in surgical cases.
• Maintains instrument and equipment integrity, performs room turnover and terminal cleaning, and utilizes supplies appropriately and cost-effectively.
• Demonstrates knowledge of asepsis principles in creating and maintaining the sterile field.
• Assists nurse in performing sharp, sponge, and instrument counts according to policy as needed.
• Demonstrates proper positioning techniques and understands the use of proper positioning aids.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards, completes required education assignments annually, and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
