About The Position

Surety is a credit business that provides financial and performance guarantees to a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, financial institutions, technology and energy. You may be saying to yourself, that’s great but what exactly does that mean, Surety bonds, for example, are important to the construction industry. These bonds ensure that projects will be built to the appropriate specifications, and that all parties working on the project will be paid for work performed. A surety underwriting internship, will provide you the opportunity to work alongside an experienced team of professionals. The internship consists of a combination of mentorship, classroom instruction, self-study and on the job training. Our program is designed to provide you with a strong technical foundation and to give you an understanding of surety to help you decide if a career in surety is for you.
The internship opportunity is in our corporate headquarters in Morristown, NJ.

Requirements

• A rising junior or senior majoring in business, finance or accounting is desired but all majors will be considered.
• Ability to gather and analyze data effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Solid organizational, time management, and planning skills essential.
• Experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word & Power Point).
• A passion for learning.
• An innovative, entrepreneurial spirit.
• Ability to take ownership and see tasks through to completion.

Nice To Haves

• Prior work experience and/or internships is preferred but not required.
• Proven leadership qualities demonstrated through work, community service, athletics, or clubs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive a hands-on introduction to surety underwriting by shadowing an experienced underwriter during the review of financial data and analysis of surety accounts. You will participate in account meetings, bond form reviews, file documentation, database entries, and management meetings.
• Receive operations training that will give you firsthand experience with what happens to a surety bond from issuance to premium processing.
• Participate in underwriting and claims training events and e-learning curriculum to enhance industry knowledge and professional skills.
• Engage with cross functional teams and business leaders throughout the insurance operation to gain exposure of all facets of the industry.
• Network with trainees and early career individuals, including career and industry workshops, and community service opportunities, to name a few.
