Primary Purpose PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Assist in the direction of personnel and activities of the Claims operation, including general liability, insurance, claims management, litigation, claims research and analysis. Protection of the Company's assets by providing guidance to staff through the execution and management of field investigations. Make presentations to Senior Management regarding investigations with high impact potential. Assist in the effective implementation of strategic initiatives, business goals and objectives. Promote an environment of diversity and high productivity. Temporarily fill in for the Manager Claims. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.
  • 4-7 years of experience in investigations, insurance or claims administration, or in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, 6-9 years of relevant experience.
  • One year of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of conflict management and proven skills in coaching, ability to build consensus, establish trust and communicate change.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with techniques for locating underground utilities
  • Awareness of Maryland and DC's regulations regarding underground damage prevention
  • Background in supervising craft teams as well as external contractors
  • Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft 365, PowerPoint, Excel, and data analytics

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, assign and perform field investigations of property damage, bodily injury, auto accidents, environmental and company damage incidents that involve liability issues for the company. Assist Claims Case Managers with evaluating damages, making liability determinations, analyzing losses and settlement strategy. (50%)
  • Prepare and review investigation reports, letters and other documents including discovery responses. (20%)
  • Provide educational services to internal and external constituencies. (10%)
  • Coordinate and manage performance standards and metrics. (5%)
  • Provide leadership to and development of the Claims team. (5%)
  • Conduct Performance Planning and Appraisal process. Identify opportunities for growth and learning and provide accurate feedback for performance and operations. (5%)
  • Provide 24/7 on call emergency response. (5%)
