About The Position

This position is located within the Health Administration Service at the Tibor Ruben VA Medical Center. Serving as a Supervisory Mobility Transportation Specialist, managing all Veterans Transportation System (VTS) and Beneficiary Travel (BT) Program activities, including patient transport, Special Mode Travel (SMT), mileage reimbursement claims, transportation contracts, 911 ambulance claims, inter-facility transfers, and common carrier transportation.

  • May be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized experience in fleet management and/or common carrier transportation.
  • Experience in planning and directing administrative activities related to transportation.
  • Experience in analyzing and evaluating information pertinent to the efficient operation of a transportation program.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Veterans Transportation Program at the facility which provides safe and reliable transportation to Veterans who require assistance traveling to and from VA health care facilities and authorized non-VA health care appointments.
  • Orchestrate travel for eligible enrollees through mileage reimbursement and contracted travel modes.
  • Plan, develop, evaluate, market, and direct key administrative activities in multiple programs related to transportation system for Veterans, active duty service members, Caregivers, and others.
  • Conduct complex and special studies for efficiency and productivity and recommend changes or improvements in work methods and procedures.
  • Identify resources (staffing, funding, equipment, facilities) required to support varied level of program operations.
  • Manage transportation budget, analyze organizational budgets, and provide advice and recommendations to Medical Center management.
  • Serve as Contracting Officer Representative for all transportation contracts, including common carrier, special mode, ambulance, and air ambulance.
  • Provide consistent and effective outreach to community transit authorities.
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of recurring performance improvement reports and a variety of nonrecurring reports.
  • Assure performance measures and standards issued by various accrediting, regulatory, and higher agency authorities.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities including establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff.
  • Ensure all transportation staff obtain and maintain appropriate licenses, certifications, and training.
