About the position

The Superintendent - Generation at Tampa Electric Company is responsible for leading all assigned operating and maintenance personnel in a line capacity to the Manager - Operations. This role focuses on ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems, compliance with NERC and environmental standards, and effective communication with the Energy Control Center to meet power needs. The position emphasizes leadership, safety, and operational excellence in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to operations teams to ensure safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally acceptable performance of generating units.
  • Directly lead assigned personnel and foster open communication.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and develop employee skills using company tools.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and station safety programs.
  • Maintain and lead efforts toward achieving company and station goals.
  • Develop and maintain operations and maintenance team schedules to minimize overtime and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Assist in developing training curriculum and oversee operational training for IGCC process specialists.
  • Develop standard operating and maintenance procedures, including emergency response plans.
  • Coordinate operation and maintenance activities with Energy Supply and Energy Control Center personnel.
  • Make recommendations on equipment, budget, and plant requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct work experience in operations and/or maintenance field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years in the operation of an electrical generating facility required.
  • Working knowledge of combined cycle generation required.
  • Understanding of Operational Best Practices required.
  • Knowledge of Safe Work Practices including HEC Procedure requirements required.

Nice-to-haves

  • A minimum of 2 years leading/working in a self-directed work team environment preferred.
  • 10 years IGCC and natural gas combined cycle operation experience preferred.
