About The Position

Incumbent serves as Support Staff for the Probation Department, responsible for providing clerical/administrative support to department personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of department policies, procedures, and related terminology, and basic understanding of criminal justice system, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks.
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy, and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including computer, printer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and calculator.
  • Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, probationers, other law enforcement agencies, attorneys, counselors, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
  • Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
  • Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records according to state requirements.
  • Ability to occasionally work extended and/or evening hours as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephone and greets office visitors, including determining purpose of call/visit, providing information, taking messages, scheduling appointments, or directing/transferring to appropriate individual or department.
  • Performs various clerical functions as assigned or as needed, including receiving/sorting/distributing mail, typing/copying/filing/mailing/faxing/distributing various documents, maintaining court and/or CARE calendars, entering and researching information on computer, compiling/printing reports.
  • Enters and retrieves information on IDACS computer, if certified.
  • Processes expungements as assigned, including pulling files, logging, obtaining criminal history and vehicle records, compiling data, typing orders, and forwarding to appropriate personnel for disposition.
  • May periodically prepare conference room for meetings and take attendance as needed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
