The Support Service Technician is responsible for helping maintain a clean, safe, friendly, and sanitary environment in patient and resident rooms, public areas, and food service areas within a healthcare facility. This role involves performing sanitary duties, including sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors using both manual and powered equipment. The technician will empty waste baskets and maintain cleanliness in areas such as patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and other assigned spaces. They will learn to use cleaning tools and equipment to maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while following safety guidelines and wearing the required protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, the technician will assist in keeping storage and equipment areas organized and comply with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service. Outstanding customer service and effective communication with patrons and co-workers are essential, as well as the ability to establish effective working relationships and maintain quality control standards. The technician will also assist in food service responsibilities by following food safety guidelines and operating basic food service equipment. They must possess the ability to work independently when necessary and have an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes. The role requires the ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk long distances. Depending upon the location, the technician will complete assigned tasks based on that location's standard processes and policies, follow infection prevention guidelines for handling contaminated laundry, and participate in laundry collection, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and the handling, storage, and distribution of clean laundry.
