The Support Services Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting individuals in securing affordable housing and employment opportunities. This position involves delivering direct core and intensive services to help clients navigate job and housing searches, placement, and training activities, particularly for those facing barriers to employment and housing.

  • Build collaborative community relationships with employers and landlords.
  • Conduct group and individual employment and/or job training counseling, outlining options with clients.
  • Contact employers to solicit jobs, promote agency services, and develop specific openings for special client groups.
  • Contact landlords to develop professional relationships and advocate for low-cost housing arrangements for clients.
  • Provide outreach and follow-up services for clients in housing, rent payments, tenancy coaching, employment, and training counseling.
  • Act as a job coach, helping clients learn job tasks and interpersonal skills necessary for the job site.
  • Interact with public and private agencies in the provision of services.
  • Conduct vocational counseling to eliminate barriers to self-sufficiency and assist in achieving housing, training, and employment goals.
  • Conduct intensive job search workshops and related support group activities.
  • Assist job seekers and confirm work search activity, developing career development plans.
  • Administer skill, interest, and aptitude tests using formal tools; conduct file searches to match applicants to openings.
  • Screen applicants for referral to jobs and monitor and record data.
  • Identify customer needs/employment barriers and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Provide employer outreach and job development services.
  • Gather feedback to ensure customer satisfaction and assist in data analysis; conduct follow-up contacts with customers.
  • Ensure nondiscrimination and equity in service delivery; comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR privacy and security regulations.
  • Perform other work as required.
  • Knowledge of local social and employment services, interviewing techniques, labor market trends, and social and economic conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in both group and individual settings.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment and establish effective interpersonal relationships with customers, peers, management, and community organizations.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and internet operations.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and comprehending program provisions, regulations, and administrative policies.
  • Ability to administer skill and interest tests and facilitate workshops.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to recruit and engage customers into a system providing a multitude of services.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and active car insurance.
  • Clear background record as required for healthcare organizations.
  • At least two years of experience providing support services preferred.
  • Friendly outgoing personality to create and maintain community relations.
