About The Position

The Support Services Officer - Courthouse Security serves as the primary contact for citizens entering the Macon County Courthouse, performing essential security duties to ensure the safety and security of the courthouse environment. This role involves operating security equipment, checking individuals for weapons or contraband, and assisting with civil process tasks. The officer must exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism while interacting with the public and responding to various security-related situations.

Requirements

• Completion of high school and some law enforcement training or experience preferred.
• Considerable knowledge of state and departmental laws and policies.
• Working knowledge of the operations and legal processes of the Sheriff's Office.
• Ability to act with sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
• Skill in the use of law enforcement equipment and self-defense tactics.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise activity reports.

Nice To Haves

• Some knowledge of scientific crime detection and criminal identification methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Greet the public in a professional and courteous manner upon entering the courthouse.
• Direct the public to various offices and courtrooms in the courthouse and adjoining properties.
• Patrol courthouse grounds to identify safety and security issues.
• Operate security equipment, including x-ray machines and body scanners.
• Serve civil papers such as subpoenas and explain their meaning to the recipients.
• Enter civil papers into the Records Management System (RMS) as needed.
• Advise the public on laws and local ordinances concerning courthouse security.
• Operate a radio to receive and report information.
• Assist bailiffs and law enforcement with the movement of persons in custody on courthouse property.
• Perform other assignments as deemed necessary by the Sheriff.
