About The Position

The Support Services Assistant - Interpreter (SSA-I) performs a wide range of interpreting services as a member of a pool of interpreters, for Rehabilitation Counselors for the Deaf (RCD) and other deaf or hard of hearing employees. This position is located in San Jose, with multiple vacancies available. The anticipated time worked will be 20 hours per week, and the employee will receive hourly compensation based on the number of hours worked. Permanent Intermittent employees are not allowed to work more than 1500 hours in a calendar year.

Requirements

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Completion of the State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678).
  • Experience providing sign language interpretation in diverse settings.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external contacts.
  • Knowledge of DOR resources and processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting services for Rehabilitation Counselors for the Deaf and other deaf or hard of hearing employees.
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet the diverse communication needs of individuals.
  • Ensure confidentiality and impartiality in interpreting situations.
  • Interpret technical or unfamiliar terms accurately and clearly.
