About The Position

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency’s mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility. This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Service Support Aide at Northeast Florida State Hospital in the Laundry Department. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push or pull up to 300 pounds in a cart as needed.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, push, stoop, stand and walk extended distances.
  • Must be able to do repetitive movements with both arms, hands, neck and head.
  • Must be able to lift both arms over your head.
  • Must be able work around cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training some of which requires loading and unloading of the truck.
  • Maintain all areas of training example: MANDT, CPR, Infection Control etc.
  • Must be able work safely around laundry equipment.
  • Must be able to withstand hot temperatures up to 100 degrees and down to 0 degrees.
  • Must be able to work outside in all temperatures and weather for 8 hours with normal breaks and lunch.
  • Must have normal vision and hearing including use of corrective lenses.
  • Must complete and maintain compliance with mandatory training through DCF Tracker to include OSHA, Infection Control HIV AIDS 104, and the annual update.
  • Must have valid Class E Driver’s License.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Receives dirty laundry in carts from residential living areas.
  • Unloads cart holding up to 300 pounds of dirty laundry.
  • Sorts and counts laundry received prior to washing.
  • Folds clean linen and clothes and places in proper cart or on shelves to prepare for delivery.
  • Loads and unloads 600-pound and 200-pound washers.
  • Uses commercial laundry feeder, ironer folder, and dryer.
  • Prepares wet sheets, bedspreads, and pillowcases for ironing.
  • Places wet clothes and linen in dryers.
  • Removes clothes and linen from dryers.
  • Checks and stamps laundry for inventory.
  • Checks completed laundry for count and places in proper carts for distribution.
  • Maintains clean and sanitary laundry area, which includes sweeping and mopping areas and picking up litter.
  • Inventories all linen areas two times per month.
  • Inventories supplies as necessary.
  • May be required to operate or work on laundry truck while on NEFSH property.
  • If operating the truck, must have a valid class E driver license.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
