About The Position

SSAI seeks a Support Scientist V to support an Earth Science contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The candidate will provide advanced scientific and technical support for the investigation, development, testing, and operational transition of next-generation land data assimilation and hydrological modeling capabilities within the Land Information System (LIS).

Requirements

• Doctorate degree in computer science, earth system science, atmospheric science or related field and 10 years’ experience in software engineering or development. Or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated experience in scientific programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Fortran, C/C++, shell scripting)
• Experience with Git/GitLab-based configuration management, version control, and software delivery processes
• Demonstrated experience with land surface modeling and/or data assimilation systems, preferably within LIS or comparable frameworks
• Experience supporting model verification, validation, regression testing, and documentation using defined standards and experiments
• Ability to manage, curate, and analyze large Earth science datasets from satellite, model, and in situ sources

Nice To Haves

• Applied experience with Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) for Earth science applications (e.g., snow, hydrology, data fusion, analytics)
• Direct hands-on experience with LIS-related components and activities such as: LDAS within LIS, LIS-based GHI, and operational transition workflows
