About The Position

The Support Host for the Helping Hands of Lompoc Wellness Center (H2L) is responsible for assisting with the organization and direction of the Wellness Center designed to assist adults in their journey to mental health wellness & recovery, as well as connect members and participants to their community. This position promotes trauma informed mental health wellness & recovery for the members and is responsible for having knowledge and skills in all aspects of the Wellness Center. The Center Support Host will uphold and promote the Center philosophy as well as the philosophy of TMHA in all duties performed. This position promotes social interaction and support, encouraging members in the recovery process.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Individuals must have lived experience as a consumer or family member of mental health services.
  • Spanish bilingual/bicultural required. Fluent in Spanish with proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral/written and communication skills.
  • Well defined organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly.
  • Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure.
  • Able to work effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level.
  • Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace.
  • Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize reliable personal vehicle and auto insurance.
  • Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a support to members and participants in providing mental health services offering social support, connection to community resources, skills training, recreation activities, and assistance with developing or enhancing independent living skills.
  • Provides safe transportation to members by driving them to activities as necessary. Performs basic safety checks on program facility, and vehicle maintenance, shops for program needs, and organized leisure activities. May be required to perform some janitorial services.
  • Functions as a role model of Wellness and Recovery to members with regard to treatment, communication, and work behavior. Leads by example and empowers members to grow and expand their abilities and knowledge.
  • Assist with the planning & preparing food for monthly luncheons including the purchasing of food items, proper storage and handling of food.
  • Meets with and communicates program issues to the Program Supervisor and works as part of a collaborative team with peers, members, and the staff of other TMHA programs, BeWell and other agencies.
  • Translates on behalf of Spanish speaking members to facilitate communication and understanding of program activities and services; maintains monthly translation of programmatic documents from English to Spanish.
  • Work with other Bilingual TMHA providers such as Family Services and LEAD to outreach to local monolingual Spanish speaking community and facilitates separate Spanish support groups outside of center as needed.
  • Is responsible for the establishment and maintaining of a positive working environment.
  • Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA’s Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication.
  • Communicates both positive and constructive feedback clearly and in a timely manner with members/staff. Remains approachable and open for members/staff to communicate problems or ask questions. Accepts constructive feedback from supervisor and others.
  • Represents management positively and takes ownership of policies when enforcing them. When questions or issues with management arise, they are directed to management for resolution.
  • Facilitates group discussions and activities; co-facilitates groups as needed. Research and coordinate material for subject matter.
  • Medi-Cal billing provides a critical portion of funding for this program. You are expected to reach documentation and billing goals as set by program manager and program supervisor.
  • All direct service staff are expected to spend at least 50% of their work time in direct service and support of clients, unless otherwise assigned by your supervisor.
  • Is responsible for and participates in upholding agency policies and ensuring accurate program paperwork, record keeping, evaluation procedures and documentation is completed and deadlines are met.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor and Program Manager.
