About The Position

The Qualcomm Self-Driving Team is seeking a vehicle technician with expertise in ADAS and self-driving technologies. This role involves hands-on work with vehicle sensor retrofits, designing and implementing mounting racks, installing vehicle logging system hardware, wiring, and performing technical troubleshooting. The successful candidate will also be responsible for vehicle maintenance and will collaborate closely with the engineering team on calibration and data collection tasks. As part of the Fleet team, this position supports all autonomous vehicle-related activities, with a particular focus on understanding the hardware system architecture and sensor integration of the test fleet.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • OR Associate's degree and 1+ year of technical or related work experience.
  • OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of technical or related work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Highschool or some college.
  • 3+ years related lab and or field work experience.
  • Technician/mechanic experience.
  • Valid driver license with clean record.
  • Good technical and mechanical ability.
  • Automotive electrical understanding.
  • Basic computer – Linux/Windows experience.
  • Experience in customer interaction for support, demo and trial.
  • Advanced driver training.
  • Electrical training and/or knowledge.
  • Occasionally willing to travel and weekend work.
  • Good communication skills written and spoken, team player attitude with sense of urgency, ownership and responsibility.
  • Fluent in English written and spoken.
  • Self-driven.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Fleet team, supporting all autonomous vehicle related activities.
  • Focus on understanding all the hardware system architecture and sensor integration of our test fleet.
  • Help track inventory and project assets.
  • Understand Linux PC system setup and configuration.
  • Perform IP network setup and management.
  • Perform diagnosis and repair of the vehicle’s electrical system, simple mechanical tasks and potential software issues (with guidance).
  • Fabricate and install and/or modify existing prototype components/fixtures.
  • Install sensors, test equipment, and other components in vehicles in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, and/or test procedures.
  • Possess a good understanding and experience with various tools required in the car industry and workshop environment.
  • Drive a car/vehicle with a driver’s license in good standing.
  • Support and travel for trade shows or weekend testing.
  • Perform data collection and Demo drive support, which includes bring up of and basic trouble shooting of the vehicle stack.
  • Maintain record keeping of performed tasks.
  • Communicate directly with engineers and other technicians to ensure a high level of technical support.
