About The Position

The Supply & Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of the VFW’s printing, mailing, and logistics functions. This position ensures efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of services that support National Headquarters and the Washington Office. The role exercises independent judgment in vendor selection, contract negotiation, workflow management, and operational decision-making. The position is accountable for optimizing processes, managing expenditures, and maintaining high-quality service standards across logistics operations. This position provides leadership to logistics staff and serves as a key resource to leadership on operational efficiencies, vendor partnerships, and cost containment strategies.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage operational functions, including logistics, printing, mailing, or supply chain activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate processes, interpret data, and implement effective solutions.

  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates all printing, mailing, and logistics operations, ensuring efficient workflow, quality control, and adherence to established processes and service standards.
  • Oversees departmental administrative functions, including preparation of correspondence, memos, reports, and purchase authorizations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains systems for recordkeeping, inventory control, purchasing, and personnel documentation to support operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Evaluates production methods and determines cost-effective approaches for printing and distribution, including analysis of in-house versus outsourced services, vendor selection, and pricing negotiations.
  • Leads vendor sourcing, contract negotiation, and performance management for printing, mailing, and logistics services to ensure high-quality outcomes and fiscal responsibility.
  • Monitors departmental expenditures and contributes to budget planning and forecasting, including costs related to printing, postage, equipment, and vendor services.
  • Analyzes operational data and trends to identify opportunities for process improvements, increased efficiency, waste reduction, and enhanced service delivery.
  • Establishes, updates, and enforces operational policies, procedures, and service standards for logistics, printing, and mailing functions.
  • Supervises and directs the daily work of assigned staff, including task delegation, performance management, attendance monitoring, and employee development.
  • Provides input on hiring, training, and disciplinary actions, with recommendations given significant weight.
  • Supports workforce development through onboarding, training, coaching, and continuous performance feedback to enhance team effectiveness and productivity.
  • Ensures proper operation and maintenance of equipment by coordinating preventative maintenance, repairs, inventory tracking, and evaluation of new technologies and equipment investments.
  • Evaluates and recommends capital investments in equipment, systems, and technology to improve operational effectiveness and achieve long-term cost savings.
  • Coordinates and tracks all print and logistics requests, maintaining communication with internal departments regarding project status, timelines, and service expectations.
  • Oversees integration and coordination between logistics, warehouse, and distribution functions to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of materials.
  • Serves as a key resource to leadership on logistics strategy, advising on cost containment, vendor partnerships, and operational improvements that support organizational objectives.
