About The Position

The position involves purchasing complex and high-value materials, supplies, or services for HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division. The role requires evaluating bids, selecting suppliers, negotiating terms, and ensuring the completion of orders. The position is based in Washington State at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and is contingent upon contract award and security clearance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master's Degree and 8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Equivalent qualifications may include: NNS Apprentice School graduate, Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate, Associate's Degree with 2 years of relevant exempt experience, or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience.
• Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience.
• High School/GED with 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience; or 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for purchasing highly complex or unusual, technical or high dollar value materials, supplies or services.
• Evaluates bids, selects and recommends suppliers, and negotiates price, quality, and service.
• Follows up on all awards until completion of order.
• Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over shipments, cancellations, and engineering change orders.
• Oversees and/or conducts supplier site visits as necessary.
• May provide work leadership for lower level employees.
