About The Position

As a Supply Chain Project Engineer, you’ll partner closely with Caterpillar suppliers and dealers and play a critical role in supporting machine and component rebuilds—an essential part of keeping the world’s largest mining operations running.  Mining machines and major components must be rebuilt to keep them performing at the highest level. Your expertise ensures that when a machine or component goes in for a rebuild, the right supply is available so that the rebuilds are completed on time, every time . In this position, you won’t just be behind the scenes—you’ll see the direct impact of your work on dealer success, customer physical availability, and overall business growth. You’ll gain visibility with leadership, work cross-functionally across the enterprise, and influence strategic decisions that shape the future of Caterpillar’s aftermarket supply chain. You can be creative, shape and improve the technology and processes to drive superior customer experience to internal stakeholders as well as Caterpillar dealers and customers. In this role, you will lead the development of the aftermarket parts supply strategy for the Resource Industries Aftermarket Supply Chain organization. You’ll drive alignment across product, marketing, and global business units, helping set annual targets and contributing to long-term product and business planning. Your work will elevate the supply chain’s performance today—and shape what it looks like heading into 2030 and beyond.

Requirements

  • Supply Chain Management: Supply chain experience that brings knowledge of lean supply chain principles, concepts, systems, processes, root cause corrective action and analytical tools. Understanding of inventory management and demand planning.
  • Product experience —understanding how machines, components, or engines are designed and used.
  • Factory/manufacturing experience —exposure to build processes, production flow, or operations.
  • Aftermarket experience —familiarity with service, rebuilds, component life cycles, or parts business.
  • Value chain experience —knowledge of how parts move from suppliers through manufacturing, distribution, and the dealer/customer network.
  • Effectiveness Measurement: Knowledge of effective measurement techniques and ability to measure the quality and quantity of work effort for the purpose of improvement.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Cross-Team Integration: Understanding of the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results; ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Supplier Management - Knowledge of supplier operations processes and ability to shape demand to supplier.  Also, be able to craft plans with supplier on supply conformance and parts coverage, engineer the value chain pipeline for superior rebuild performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science) or related field.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP National Certification.
  • Cross-functional experiences in problem solving across Manufacturing / Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, or Parts Distribution is highly desired.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and providing top leadership updates
  • Experience with the Lean or 6 Sigma principles.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership Develop the vision and manage a multigeneration project plan supporting key elements of Caterpillar’s 2030 growth strategy.
  • Lead annual target setting to support strategic goals and guide the department’s business planning process.
  • Develop the department budget and long-term business plans.
  • Cross Functional Integration Build strong partnerships across product and marketing teams, component divisions, machine divisions, and internal process partners.
  • Establish and govern best practices, partnerships, and alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Supply Chain Optimization Identify, define, and implement integrated supply chain solutions to enhance performance and reduce cost.
  • Investigate industry benchmarks and best practices to drive continuous improvement in inventory utilization, supplier networks, and supply chain health.
  • Analyze data to prioritize opportunities, optimize supply chains, and improve business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with simulation and modeling experts to design and optimize supply chain flows.
