About The Position

Location: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum. The role: GM Supplier Quality Engineers prioritize safety in every aspect of their work while fostering an inclusive environment that protects our customers and supports GM’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion. As a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) in Interiors, you serve as the technical liaison between GM Purchasing, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and the supply base. This role is responsible for supplier manufacturing readiness, launch execution, and ongoing production quality through hands-on technical engagement and disciplined quality systems. The ideal candidate is a seasoned manufacturing and quality professional with strong factory floor experience who can lead through influence and drive results across internal teams and supplier organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience gained through extensive hands‑on manufacturing and quality work.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality, engineering, manufacturing, or supplier quality.
  • Proven hands‑on factory floor experience supporting production operations and program launches, with a strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems and supplier quality management practices.
  • Proficient in engineering drawing interpretation, GD&T, dimensional measurement, and gage design/function.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate quality issues, lead structured problem‑solving efforts, and apply sound technical judgment to develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while effectively leading and influencing cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, build relationships, influence stakeholders, and drive accountability and results.
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering
  • Demonstrated capability in one or more of the following areas: Statistical Problem Solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC) Product Engineering Lean Manufacturing and/or Manufacturing Quality Manufacturing, Process, and/or Tool Engineering
  • Experience with AIAG quality systems and tools such as APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Run at Rate (R@R).
  • Professional certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt

Responsibilities

  • Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for new and modified components, ensuring suppliers meet quality requirements, timing, and launch readiness expectations.
  • Manage PPAP, Run at Rate, and other part‑qualification activities, including reviewing and approving supplier quality documentation such as Control Plans and PFMEAs.
  • Lead supplier root cause analyses and drive robust corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
  • Conduct on‑site supplier visits to investigate issues and validate the implementation and long‑term sustainability of corrective actions using structured problem‑solving methods.
  • Assess supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems to confirm capability and compliance with requirements.
  • Improve supplier performance by delivering on‑site workshops, providing technical support, and strengthening quality system execution.
  • Provide technical assistance during supplier launches, changeovers, and ongoing production operations.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Plant Operations to resolve issues and support continuous improvement.
