About The Position

The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer at Cummins Inc. is responsible for ensuring that suppliers and products meet customer requirements through strong quality and technical expertise. This role involves collaboration with external suppliers, supply chain teams, and engineering functions to achieve superior quality outcomes and drive continuous improvement in the supply base.

Requirements

  • 12-16 years of relevant experience in the automotive industry, with a focus on supplier quality.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering role in the automotive or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Proficiency in forging and machining components, with additional knowledge of commodities like casting, hardware, and sheet metal.
  • Expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles, engineering standards, and manufacturing technology.
  • Familiarity with Automotive Core Tools (e.g., DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, PPAP).
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement robust, data-driven solutions.
  • Proficiency in supplier performance improvement strategies and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
  • Knowledge of quality standards such as ISO9001:2015 and IATF16949.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and results.
  • Application of statistical tools and methods to influence decision-making and drive improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including external suppliers, customers, and internal teams such as Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Engineering.
  • Support the cross-functional supplier selection process for components.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to validate manufacturing processes for conformance to engineering prints, standards, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Apply industry-standard tools like Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), AIAG tools, and Cummins specialty tools to ensure zero-defect components in the supply chain.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the supply base using methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Conduct supplier audits to mitigate risks, assess readiness, and improve performance.
  • Lead quality improvement plans to enhance supplier performance.
  • Resolve supplier-related quality issues by conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and verifying their effectiveness.
