About The Position

Amazon installs a significant quantity of new buildings every year. The historical model has been to allow each integrator to use their own equipment, controls, subsystems, and methodologies. While that has allowed Amazon to be successful to this point, the variability between buildings has proven difficult to support and scale. One MHS’ charge is to build partnerships to focus on consistency and scalability across our network of the future. We will be partnering with key suppliers to help them scale up their manufacturing capabilities to keep up with our needs, as well as refining their designs to drive innovation and operational uptime and better meet the specific needs of Amazon’s operational environment. In partnership with WWDE, OMHS will challenge the status quo on our Gen14 AR sortables building by focusing on critical equipment, controls, and system implementation methods. We are seeking a Supplier Qualification Manager to join our One-MHS team, focusing on development of new suppilers (including contract manufacturing) and their qualification. As our Supplier Qualification Manager, you'll own the process of identifying, evaluating, and qualifying the integrators, contract manufacturers, and critical MHE components that Amazon depends on. You're not just vetting vendors — you're building the supplier ecosystem that will support billions in infrastructure spend over the next decade. Every qualification decision you make shapes whether a new fulfillment center opens on time and whether Amazon can keep its promise to customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material engineering, mechanical engineering or related fields
  • Experience in hands-on expertise in identifying cause-and-effect relationships for key commodities such as mechanical parts, PCBs, or lens modules
  • Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
  • 5+ years of experience in supplier development, equipment engineering, or supply chain operations in material handling, industrial automation, or capital equipment
  • Hands-on experience conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), including defining test protocols and issuing NCRs
  • Experience evaluating contract manufacturers — including make vs. buy analysis and CM capability assessments
  • Experience managing multi-stakeholder technical programs across engineering, operations, quality, and commercial teams
  • Proficiency with risk assessment frameworks: FMEA, RC/CA, SPC, and reliability modeling (MTBF/MTTR)

Nice To Haves

  • Deep technical fluency in MHE systems: cross-belt sorters, conveyance, induction systems, IPC/EtherCAT platforms, and controls integration
  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field); Six Sigma certification a plus
  • Global experience managing supplier qualifications across NA, EU, APAC, or MENA
  • Familiarity with sustainability and compliance frameworks: EcoVadis, DEI programs, Rapid Ratings, Avetta
  • Experience with Amazon operational metrics (OEE, FPY, DTH, LPH) or equivalent KPIs in warehouse automation
  • Background building qualification processes from scratch in high-growth or ambiguous environments
  • Experience transitioning products from OEM to contract manufacturing at scale

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end supplier qualification for new MHE suppliers (equipment or services) — evaluating people, process and technology.
  • Develop and execute a standardized qualification process for new suppliers, products, and technologies — build the playbook, then run it consistently across every new entrant. Partner with other internal organization to build the standardized playbook
  • Lead qualification of existing products transitioning to contract manufacturers via OMHS product qualification route; own the process from assessment through sign-off
  • Develop and execute qualification roadmaps aligned to Amazon's 3–5 year Plan of Record (PoR); secure supplier capacity ahead of demand across P20–P80 business scenarios
  • Own Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) — develop test plans, define pass/fail criteria, witness tests, and issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) with zero ambiguity, in partnership with HW development teams
  • Assess capabilities and suitability of contract manufacturers (CMs) for MHE components; evaluate automation levels, production processes, in-house vs. outsourced manufacturing ratios, and capacity headroom
  • Enable a pool of qualified CMs that can be activated quickly to support scaling needs; ensure the bench is deep enough to absorb demand volatility
  • Drive hardware team partnerships to enable contract manufacturing transitions — coordinate technical requirements, design-for-manufacturability reviews, and supplier readiness milestones
  • Develop and lead success criteria for technical specifications in conjunction with technical spec owners; ensure qualification standards are unambiguous and consistently applied
  • Conduct deep-dive technical assessments of supplier capabilities: controls architecture, throughput performance (PPH), MTBF/MTTR, and sub-tier supply chain risk
  • Lead Root Cause/Corrective Action (RC/CA) analysis for complex equipment failures during qualification or early deployment
  • Establish statistical process control (SPC) protocols for real-time performance monitoring during FATs and post-launch
  • Align qualification plans across global leadership teams spanning WWDE, Robotics, Operations Engineering, RME, WHS, and GPO
  • Coordinate with other development teams to ensure consistency in qualification processes and priorities across programs and regions
  • Remove bias from sourcing decisions by providing independent People/Process/Technology risk assessments to Category Management teams

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
  • paid time off
  • parental leave
