ZF CV Systems North America LLC has a job opening for the positions of Supplier Development Engineer based out of its location in Auburn Hills, MI. The role involves developing a local supplier base in North America to achieve local content goals, utilizing technical expertise in mechanical parts, elastomer, plastics, and chemical finish surfaces. The engineer will bring lessons learned to local suppliers to prevent launch failures and expedite supply chain development. This position serves as the ZF Commercial Vehicle Division's 'one face to supplier' to develop new products using automotive standards APQP - Advanced Product Quality Planning process in the North America Region. Responsibilities include releasing supplier Part Approval Process (PPAP) in agreement with the delivering plant quality, ensuring project quality to achieve zero defects and flawless launches, performing process audits at assigned suppliers, and leading technology workshops. The position requires 40% to 70% domestic travel to develop on-site local supply chains and review supplier performance.

  • Develop local supplier base in North America to achieve local content goals.
  • Use technical expertise in mechanical parts, elastomer, plastics, and chemical finish surfaces.
  • Prevent launch failures and expedite supply chain development.
  • Serve as the ZF Commercial Vehicle Division's 'one face to supplier'.
  • Develop new products using automotive standards APQP.
  • Release supplier Part Approval Process (PPAP) in agreement with the delivering plant quality.
  • Ensure project quality to achieve zero defects and flawless launches.
  • Perform process audits at assigned suppliers according to VDA 6.3/technical checklist.
  • Track closure to open action item list at suppliers.
  • Lead technology workshops to screen technology and manufacturing practices at suppliers.
  • Approve and follow change requests from suppliers and internally.
  • Serve as technical lead of cross-functional teams.
  • Track all project tasks regarding supplier development activities.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field.
  • 5 years experience with Quality Assurance standards according to IATF 16949.
  • Experience in Process Engineering or Project Management.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing mechanical processes including machining, iron and aluminum casting, and plastic injection molding.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement techniques (PDCA).
  • Experience with processing audits following IATF 16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards.
  • Familiarity with AIAG quality tools including APQP, PPAP, 8D, QRQC, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Ability to negotiate quality requirements contracts for new projects.
  • Experience in resolving and developing cooperative strategies between manufacturing plants and vendors.
