About The Position

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders play an integral role in providing academic support to students enrolled in historically challenging courses at American University. SI Leaders will attend their supported course, review course content, plan and facilitate out-of-class weekly review sessions that reiterate content in their supported course.

Requirements

  • Must be a current AU student.
  • This position renews on a semester basis based upon faculty recommendations and course requests.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and engage in their supported class, take notes, and familiarize themselves with the course assignments.
  • Plan and prepare for weekly SI sessions.
  • Facilitate one (two-hour) or two (one-hour) weekly review sessions.
  • Distribute SI session sign-in sheets for each SI session.
  • Attend and fully participate in semester training and cohort meetings.
  • Conduct peer observations of fellow SI Leaders.
  • Meet with Student Academic Services staff at least twice per semester.
  • Meet with their supported faculty members at least twice per semester.
  • Accurate complete time sheets and surveys in a timely manner.
  • Distribute end of the semester survey to their supported course.
