About The Position

As an Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader within the Academic Success Center (ASC), you will support student success by attending a designated course, staying current with class content, and leading twice-weekly collaborative study sessions. You will create engaging activities that reinforce key concepts, build study skills, and encourage active learning. SI Leaders work closely with the course instructor and Academic Success Center staff, promote session attendance, and maintain a professional, student-centered approach. Each SI Leader will report to the respective ASC Coordinator of the campus that they are based at. This application is for a specific class embedded academic program that supports Mathematics. Our recruiting focus is for Mathematics for Liberal Arts, Algebra and Statistics. The Academic Success Center may have support needs in higher level math courses. For all other subjects, please use the Tutor (All Subjects) posting to submit an application.

Requirements

  • 3.0 or higher overall GPA with candidate's current institution; or proof of degree.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Genuine interest in assisting students to succeed academically.

  • Prior enrollment in the selected course highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all class meetings of the selected course, take accurate notes, understand all the homework/reading assignments and projects, and assist instructor with in-class activities. SI Leaders do not grade.
  • Organize and plan regularly scheduled SI sessions that include group activities, study skills development, and active review of course content.
  • Create activities and other artifacts to help students improve their understanding of course content.
  • Be prepared and be on time for each SI session.
  • Facilitate two (2) 60-minute group study sessions per week throughout the semester. Provide additional SI sessions as necessary (e.g. prior to quizzes and exams).
  • Make regular announcements about the availability of SI study sessions to students and develop creative ways to encourage participation and market SI to students as directed.
  • Meet with the course instructor weekly to communicate about course material and SI sessions.
  • Report immediately to the coordinator when critical issue(s) arises.
  • Attend SI Leader training prior to the start of the semester and complete online training components as directed. Pre-semester training will be 1-2 days the week before school starts.
  • Attend and participate in SI Leader team meetings and training as scheduled.
  • Complete additional required training and professional development sponsored through FRCC.
  • Collect and report attendance data and submit bi-weekly paperwork to the ASC.
  • Follow all procedures and policies set by the ASC.
  • Act in a professional manner, and be approachable, sensitive to, and respectful of the students' needs.
  • Be familiar with campus resources available to students.
  • Keep all information on students you work with confidential.
  • Support and care about student success.
  • Support the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity, and service to the College.
  • Commit to work the entire semester.
