About The Position

The Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO) position at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves overseeing security operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The role is critical in safeguarding the American transportation infrastructure by mitigating threats against civil aviation and other transportation modes. The STSO will supervise Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSOs), ensuring effective screening of passengers, baggage, and cargo while making independent security-based decisions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • One year of specialized experience related to the duties of a Transportation Security Officer or Lead Transportation Security Officer.
  • Six months of experience as a work leader, team leader, or supervisor in any work environment.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and obtain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and subject to post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and supervise subordinate employees in conducting pre-board security screening of persons, their carry-on and checked baggage/cargo.
  • Oversee screening checkpoint(s) and/or baggage screening operations on a day-to-day basis, including equipment, personnel, and scheduling.
  • Participate in the development of new policies and procedures, recommending changes based on observations of work.
  • Engage in strategic planning initiatives, workforce planning, and other reports for TSA and superiors.
  • Prepare various types of communications such as morning briefings, checkpoint logs, and reports relevant to the work performed.
  • Develop incident information and reports for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and superiors.
  • Serve as a first line supervisor, assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing performance of subordinates.
