The position is a first-level supervisory role within the Romance and General Branch of the Translating Division at the Office of Language Services, Bureau of Administration. The role involves overseeing the performance of subordinates, managing translation projects, and providing diplomatic translations in various languages for the Department of State and other federal agencies. The supervisor will also advise upper management on organizational changes and operational issues.

  • Evaluate the performance of subordinates and set performance standards.
  • Plan work to be accomplished and set priorities for the team.
  • Manage outsourced translation projects and aspects of in-house translation.
  • Review official translations into English and vice versa.
  • Advise upper management on organizational structure changes and operational issues.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service.
  • Experience in translating, interpreting, or related work requiring English and another language.
  • Experience leading a team of translators and managing translation projects.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Experience in strategic planning to improve efficiency and effectiveness in work processes.
  • Familiarity with translation practices and technology, including computer-assisted translation tools.
  • Experience with translation management systems.
  • Background in international organizational work such as with the Peace Corps or United Nations.
  • Telework agreements may be permitted with supervisory approval.
