About The Position

The Supervisory Social Worker for Acute Inpatient Psychiatry (AIP) has direct supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of the assigned AIP Social Workers. Incumbent will assist with planning, establishing and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the Social Work Staff assigned to the team. The position is located onsite in Long Beach, CA.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must have a Master's Degree in Social Work from a school of Social Work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
  • Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice Social Work at the Master's Degree level.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with VALB inpatient psychiatry units.
  • Mental health assessment and treatment planning experience.
  • Supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides hiring, orientation, consultation, and performance evaluations for all Social Workers in the AIP section.
  • Oversees Social Workers at various grades up to GS-12 and provides administrative, technical and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work in AIP.
  • Exercises authority and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as administrative and personnel management functions related to the staff supervised.
  • Engages in coordination with community agencies, organizations and groups to learn of services or resources available to Veterans, as well as provide current information on VA services and benefits.
  • May also provide clinical coverage to Social Workers assigned to the AIP.
  • Provides direct clinical care to veterans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
