About The Position

The Supervisory Medical Records Technician (ROI) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center is responsible for overseeing the Release of Information Unit. This role involves managing the processing and maintenance of medical records, ensuring compliance with privacy laws, and providing direct customer service to Veterans and third parties requesting patient protected health information (PHI). The technician will supervise staff, conduct audits, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of data processing while maintaining high standards of quality in the unit's operations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • One year of creditable experience in medical terminology and health records management, with six months specifically in MRT (ROI) work.
  • An associate's degree in health information technology or a related field with relevant coursework may substitute for experience.
  • Ability to develop policy and provide workload analysis for release of information.

  • Past experience as a Medical Records Technician (ROI) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as supervisor and technical expert for the Release of Information Unit.
  • Provide guidance and suggestions to the Chief and Assistant Chief of Health Information Management regarding staffing needs.
  • Conduct audits and monitor the performance of the unit to ensure accurate and timely data processing.
  • Review work accomplished by employees and assess quality, quantity, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Develop performance standards and conduct performance evaluations for staff.
  • Manage personnel functions including training, leave approvals, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal laws and regulations related to privacy and information release.
  • Prepare weekly statistics on record turnaround times and monitor staff workload.
