About The Position

This position is located in Refugee, Asylum & International Operations, Asylum Division Newark Asylum Office. As a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist, you will share responsibility for the management and technical direction of a USCIS Asylum Office, including preparation, research, resolution and processing in the office's administration of applications for asylum and other benefits.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National to apply for this position.
  • Successfully pass a Background Investigation including financial disclosure.
  • You must pass a drug screening.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Political appointees may require OPM approval before on-boarding.
  • Residency Requirement: Candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; resided in the United States, worked for the U.S. Government as an employee overseas, or been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all adjudicative support and operations support functions and directs the activities of assigned staff responsible for case status tracking, the handling of public case inquiries.
  • Make decisions and resolves problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of CIS policy to include resolution of complicated issues where decisions cannot be reached.
  • Recommends changes, plans, goals, objectives, and milestones for substantive changes in the administration of case management with the potential for national implementation.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations to a team of Legal Administrative Specialist responsible for responding to in-person, telephonic or written customer inquiries; make jurisdiction determinations by analyzing appropriate information and documents.
  • Coordinates, plans, and adjusts work in collaboration with supervisors from other units to ensure that the work is accomplished in a consistent and timely manner to meet established priorities, goals.
