About The Position

The Supervisory Fruit & Vegetable Marketing Specialist serves as a Regional Director within the Fair Trade Practices Program of the Department of Agriculture. This role is responsible for administering the functions of the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) and Produce Agency Act (PAA) in the designated area, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting orderly marketing of fruits and vegetables.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Individuals born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period unless previously served.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license at the time of application.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level for promotion opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend and participate in formulating policy programs and modifications to assist in carrying out the functions of the Division.
  • Participate in developing information and making recommendations for amendments to laws and regulations that will promote orderly marketing of fruits and vegetables.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with industry representatives.
  • Attend trade meetings and national conferences to discuss problems of mutual interest.
  • Conduct educational clinics for licensees as requested.
  • Develop information on trends and emerging problem areas in the fruit and vegetable industry.
  • Determine when disciplinary and operating without a license investigations should be initiated, opened, and investigated.
  • Direct, coordinate, and oversee activities concerned with the processing and audit of claims filed under the Statutory Trust Provision of the PACA.
  • Oversee counseling of fruit and vegetable traders, industry representatives, and attorneys regarding licensing requirements, employment restrictions, and bonding issues.
