About The Position

The Supervisory Forestry Technician (Airbase Manager) Wildland Firefighter position involves planning and administering a diverse range of complex aviation field and program operations. The role includes participation in the formulation, development, and execution of rappel operations, determining and monitoring resources needed to implement plans, and ensuring compliance with program requirements. The individual may serve as a district/zone forest duty officer and oversee fixed wing operations at the base. Responsibilities also include providing technical and administrative supervision, planning and assigning work, evaluating work performance, and performing human resource functions to promote Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and nondiscriminatory practices. The position requires leadership in fire safety and health programs, evaluating risks, and identifying safety requirements. Additionally, the role involves day-to-day contract administration, financial management, and enforcing helicopter contract provisions, as well as serving as an instructor responsible for planning, administering, developing, and implementing wildland firefighting and aviation management operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Must have federal payments made by direct deposit.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • This is a drug testing designated position.
  • Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management or Fire Program Management positions.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in implementing helicopter service contracts.
  • Experience in directing and coordinating aviation and helicopter rappel operations.
  • Experience assessing fire management factors such as aviation, fuels, and suppression capability.
