The Supervisory Correctional Officer (Lieutenant) position within the Department of Justice is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of correctional services, ensuring the safety and security of inmates, and preparing individuals for successful reentry into society. This role involves supervising correctional officers, implementing policies, conducting training, and responding to emergencies. The position is critical in maintaining a humane environment while enforcing institutional regulations.

  • Serve as a shift supervisor in the Correctional Services department, providing guidance to subordinate staff.
  • Implement post orders and conduct training classes related to correctional procedures.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations related to custodial security of the institution.
  • Investigate reported violations of prohibited acts and take appropriate actions.
  • Maintain security of the special housing unit and ensure the safe housing of all inmates within the unit.
  • Document and maintain various programs within the unit, including feeding, recreation, sanitation, personal hygiene, and medical care.
  • Take prompt and decisive action in emergency situations to ensure safety and security.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
  • Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders.
  • Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution.
  • Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees.
  • Experience in a supervisory role within a correctional facility.
  • Knowledge of correctional policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
