About The Position

The position involves overseeing and managing civil engineering projects within forest or natural resource management areas. The role requires providing technical guidance, ensuring compliance with policies, and analyzing the effectiveness of engineering programs. The individual will also be responsible for supervising staff, developing engineering plans, and making recommendations for program direction based on various factors affecting engineering operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period unless previously served.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT).
  • Experience in managing engineering programs in a federal or governmental context.

Responsibilities

  • Visit field units to monitor compliance with policies and provide guidance on engineering projects.
  • Review and approve plans, designs, and specifications for facilities and proposed roads.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of engineering projects within a forest or natural resource management area.
  • Apply civil engineering concepts and practices to manage engineering programs.
  • Adjust civil engineering programs and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers, technicians, and contractors on civil engineering projects.
  • Participate as a team member to recommend engineering programs and objectives.
  • Develop short and long-range engineering programs reflecting functional needs and resource capabilities.
  • Recommend changes in program direction based on leadership guidance and other influencing factors.
  • Perform supervisory duties, including planning work, assigning tasks, and establishing quality standards.
