About The Position

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to manage one or more national programs in order to help to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering/exiting the U.S. Apply for this exciting opportunity to direct programs that strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security. This position starts at a salary of $105,383.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $137,000.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $137,000.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this first-line supervisory position you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must pass a background investigation and/or polygraph.
  • Must have taken the required CBP Officer Promotional Assessment component and have a passing Total Score.
  • Must possess the ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle and have a valid, non-restricted driver's license.
  • Must meet initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing, planning and participating in tactical operations.
  • Experience in conducting visual and physical inspection of cargo, baggage, conveyances, packing materials and people using a wide array of non-intrusive technology.
  • Experience serving as coach and mentor to other CBP Officers.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising shift operations, providing technical advice on import and export of cargo and merchandise and articles accompanying persons.
  • Providing guidance and training, communicating intelligence and enforcement information, disseminating new procedures and policy changes.
  • Monitoring daily task-related training and reviewing monthly training records of assigned CBPO (Canine) to identify remedial training needs.
  • Enforcing all requirements pertaining to the safe handling of dogs, and maintains strict supervision over the canine officers and dogs while conducting training.
