About The Position

This position is in the Audiology section of the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology service at the McClellan Audiology Clinic of the Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System. The incumbent will serve as the Sacramento Region Supervisory Audiologist with frequent travel between McClellan, CA and Mather, CA clinics and occasional travel to other audiology clinical locations within the region.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must hold a Doctor of Audiology (AUD) or other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field.
  • Must have a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a licensed audiologist.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with cochlear implants and/or vestibular evaluations/treatment.
  • Documented experience precepting or mentoring graduate students in audiology.
  • Documented experience in leadership and/or management roles.
  • A current, valid state-issued driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, assessing, and evaluating programs to ensure proper coordination between healthcare delivery within the section and the overall delivery of health care.
  • Make decisions with wide latitude of control and independent judgment.
  • Exercise supervisory responsibilities such as planning and scheduling work, assigning work to employees, accepting, amending or rejecting completed work, assuring that production and accuracy requirements are met, appraising performance and recommending performance standards and ratings, assigning delineated clinical privileges, approving leave, and effecting disciplinary measures.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new staff.
  • Conduct, plan, and coordinate clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services associated with contemporary audiology practice.
  • Responsible for independent diagnostic assessment and evaluation of cases that are referred to the Audiology Section without limitation as to difficulty or complexity.
  • Assess patient conditions from examination, observation and consultation with other members of an interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Utilize diagnostic and evaluative procedures and techniques consistent with contemporary audiology practice.
  • Develop an appropriate plan of care and deliver treatment as designed and consistent with principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Document evaluation and treatment actions and outcomes in appropriate formats in a timely manner, in accordance with facility policy.
  • Report findings to Veterans and their families, and to professional colleagues.
  • Provide patient and family education including informed consent.
  • Optimize clinical safety and efficiency by maintaining supplies, equipment in good working order.
  • Serve as a consultant to other facility personnel involving the most difficult and complex cases.
  • Remain current with new developments in audiology and maintain professional competency.
  • Participate in research activities pertinent to audiology.
