The Supervisory Attorney - Adviser position at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) involves managing attorneys in the Land Law Branch of the Region 10 Office of Regional Counsel. The role focuses on overseeing legal aspects related to environmental cleanup and cost recovery under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and corrective actions under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The position requires providing legal advice, managing personnel, and ensuring effective collaboration with various stakeholders to support the Superfund program.

  • Serve as a first-line supervisor to manage attorneys in the Land Law Branch (LLB).
  • Oversee all substantive environmental issues within the LLB, including assigning work and reviewing major work products.
  • Resolve complex legal issues and provide legal advice and policy recommendations to senior managers.
  • Handle administrative matters for the LLB, including performance reviews and personnel-related activities.
  • Build effective working relationships with program managers, federal agencies, and state and tribal legal contacts.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise regarding CERCLA and RCRA corrective action and disseminate current policies and guidance.
  • Represent ORC during regional or national meetings addressing Superfund issues.
  • Mentor new and less experienced LLB attorneys.
  • Possess a J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Hold an active bar membership in good standing.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, demonstrating leadership or management experience in environmental law.
  • Experience with the Superfund program and/or corrective action under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
