About The Position

The Y on the Fly Supervisor coordinates and oversees the implementation of programming that encourages physical, emotional, and intellectual growth in a safe and nurturing environment. This position supports the operation of the Y on the Fly van through coordinating activities and managing logistics of its deployment throughout the community. The Y on the Fly Supervisor supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in related field preferred
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 60 days of hire date.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience with school-age children or the equivalent education; including leading structured activities that support youth development & healthy lifestyles
  • Ability to plan & implement engaging recreational activities Ability to safely drive & deploy a commercial van throughout the community
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
  • Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have a valid Florida driver license. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding. Receives and follows detailed instructions.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind.
  • Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children’s well-being. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
  • Must complete a successful Motor vehicle check (MVR), employment verification, School Vendor clearance and background screening, which includes a DCF Level 2 Background Check

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily operation of Y on the Fly activities ensuring they fit the needs andinterests of the participants to build healthy lifestyles. Submit planned activities/lesson plans to Director for review.
  • Safely drive & deploy the Y on the Fly Van adhering strictly to traffic laws and safety protocols including wearing seatbelt.
  • Responsible for Logistics Management during the deployment of the Y on the Fly Van throughout the Central Florida Community.
  • Assist Director in acting as a liaison between the YMCA of Central Florida and external partners which could include School Districts; Community based organizations or other nonprofit agencies.
  • Ensure proper implementation of schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for program participant/staff connections. Collaborate and work effectively with all sites to achieve desired results.
  • Offers support to all staff and serves as a resource to them
  • Take responsibility for the safety of the children/program participants and the quality of the supplies, equipment and materials in the Y on the Fly Van.
  • Conduct vehicle inspection checklist upon deployment of the van
  • Inventories supplies regularly and informs leadership of any items that are needed including medical; arts and crafts; sports; and general supplies
  • Handles discipline/accident reports according to procedures and company policy to be reviewed by the Director
  • Remain up to date on emergency procedures
  • Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • All other duties assigned by management.
