About The Position

The Supervisor-Water Distribution supervises, leads, and monitors all water distribution, maintenance, and operational efficiency for the Dallas Water Utility. This position is responsible for the overall supervision, planning, direction, and execution of work for non-exempt and/or exempt employees in a medium or large sized operational unit. The functional activities are complex and have a moderate impact on overall operations. This level supervises employees in complex clerical/administrative/trade, or complex technical functions that provide services to persons inside or outside the organization. Work performed is non-routine and complex semi-skilled, skilled, or technical in nature.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) years of experience in any of the following Water/Wastewater/Stormwater areas: Construction, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance.
  • Two (2) years of experience with supervisory/management responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Some positions may require a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at time of application, or within probationary period.
  • Some positions may require specific licensure from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) at time of application or within probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, expertise, and direction in the water distribution activities for a range of water facilities and systems within the Dallas Water Utility.
  • Supervises dam maintenance, pump stations, and other facilities providing water to citizens and customers across the City.
  • Prioritizes tasks, schedules and assigns maintenance requests, and ensures that staff are completing work on schedule, and have clear performance expectations.
  • Hires, trains, and delivers performance evaluation and enforces discipline.
  • Verifies and approves time, manages equipment, tools, and technology and performs other supervisory tasks for department personnel.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of long range plans, programs, and schedules.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of budget and resource allocation.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and addresses issues or concerns with water distribution methods and facilities.
  • Checks and evaluates preventative maintenance standards, periodic verification and calibration, and assists in correcting breakdowns or other equipment failures.
  • Plans, controls, supervises, and coordinates maintenance activities and evaluates components.
  • Monitors and oversees plant and facility performance to ensure that water distribution services comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Hears and resolves serious complaints or simple grievances from employees.
  • Finds and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness.
