The Supervisor for UPS Cargo Handling is responsible for overseeing the daily operations at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This includes ensuring proper staffing, conducting interviews, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Department Manager. The Supervisor will train new employees, prepare necessary documentation, and supervise lead and ramp agents. The role also involves working closely with UPS Management to resolve operational issues, prevent flight delays, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. The Supervisor will conduct safety audits, manage employee concerns, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Ensure proper staffing is scheduled for the UPS operation.
  • Conduct interviews, performance evaluations, and issue disciplinary actions.
  • Train new employees to the department.
  • Prepare various documents needed for the daily UPS operation.
  • Supervise lead agents and ramp agents; allocate staffing resources as needed.
  • Work with UPS Management to resolve problems and prevent flight delays.
  • Ensure work methods are being done correctly.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure operational and safety performance.
  • Perform safety audits to ensure employee and equipment safety.
  • Resolve employee concerns and submit to Department Manager for action.
  • Train, develop, and educate all staffing.
  • Move cargo and baggage onto and off the aircraft and transport it between trailers, air cargo facilities, and other aircraft.
  • Operate motorized equipment.
  • Read and interpret aircraft weight and balance instructions, hazardous material identification labels, aircraft loading manifest, package and cargo routing tags.
  • Maintain the ramp area, work area, building, and equipment in a clean and presentable condition.
  • Comply with LAWA regulations and policies.
  • Comply with local attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment testing, including drug testing and ten-year background check as required by US Customs.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One year college certificate or technical school, one-year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass drug test and pre-employment medical.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Must be able to comfortably lift 70 pounds.
  • Prior ramp experience a plus.
  • Must be available on call and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Work is done primarily outdoors. Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
  • Must pass an FBI background check and obtain a custom seal.
  • Must pass driver's test with the Department of Airports and obtain a driver's license to drive on Airport Operational Area (AOA).
  • Some college or better.
  • Technical/other training or better.
