The Transportation Supervisor role is responsible for coordinating daily transportation operations, managing CDL drivers, and ensuring routes are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT and company standards. This role requires strong communication skills, logistical expertise, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment while supporting the company’s strategic and operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of CDL drivers, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and addressing safety issues or claims when they arise.
  • Implement and execute dispatch and routing plans that support the company’s strategic and operating goals, ensuring an excellent customer experience while maximizing efficiency and controlling costs.
  • Ensure maximum productivity through effective route planning, drop‑and‑hook coordination, and adherence to route management systems; establish productivity goals and manage labor hours to achieve maximum efficiencies.
  • Oversee daily outbound shipments and ensure timely, accurate dispatching of all loads.
  • Interact with customers, drivers, and internal staff to resolve service concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Oversee safety and accident‑prevention practices, ensuring all reasonable measures are taken to prevent injuries and maintain a safe work environment; support and maintain an effective safety and loss‑control program.
  • Lead dispatch operations to ensure full compliance with environmental, operating, regulatory, DOT, safety, accounting, and ethical standards.
  • Assist in managing the transportation budget through efficient routing, labor management, and operational decision‑making.
  • Build and maintain a high‑performing team and a positive workplace culture; support talent development and best-practice sharing across the department.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with employees, drivers, customers, and leadership to support smooth operations.
  • Schedule maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime and ensure vehicles are safe and road‑ready.
  • Maintain accurate records of dispatch activities, customer interactions, DOT compliance requirements, and operational data.
  • Participate in the recruitment process for driver and helper positions.
  • Assist with customer billing and other transportation office tasks as needed.
