About The Position

The position involves supervising non-shop employees in the absence of the department Director and Assistant Directors/Area Directors. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Two years of experience as a safe school bus driver
  • Ability to effectively direct, manage, and motivate personnel
  • Ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions clearly and effectively
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents, including district policies and department guidelines
  • Proficient map reading skills
  • Ability to use a computerized routing system
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests and annual physical exam
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate effective time management skills
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to safely operate a school bus
  • Ability to serve as a role model to employees and students
  • Ability to effectively manage student behavior and motivate students.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all non-shop employees in the absence of the department Director and the Assistant Directors/Area Directors
  • Assist the Director and the Assistant Directors/Area Directors in determining the departmental structure and job descriptions
  • Assist in the succession planning of key positions
  • Coordinate, evaluate, and approve departmental operations
  • Direct and manage bus drivers and attendants at assigned transportation centers
  • Mentor, motivate, and assist employees with customer service and on-time performance
  • Manage student behavior and motivate students
  • Interview driver and attendant applicants and assist with the onboarding process
  • Confirm transportation eligibility in compliance with federal rules and district policy
  • Process transportation requests for students and create appropriate bus stop locations
  • Determine student safety requirements and maintain records of assigned equipment
  • Review, edit, and approve employee timesheets and trip sheets
  • Ensure district policy and departmental guidelines are enforced through meetings and training
  • Serve as a substitute driver, attendant, or dispatcher as needed
  • Respond to emergencies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation, an Assistant Director, and the Area Director
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
