About The Position

This position is responsible for the management and development of staff, providing oversight to quality and service, regulatory compliance, work unit safety, strategic planning, document management, financial management, and developing and implementing new services. The role requires working cooperatively with a wide variety of customers, as well as internal and external resources. Additionally, the individual will complete special projects as assigned by the laboratory consultant/director(s), administrator, and/or operations manager(s). Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. It is important to note that this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science (CLS), medical laboratory science (MLS), or medical technology (MT) with six years of relevant clinical laboratory experience, including four years post-degree
  • Bachelor's degree plus a certificate in medical laboratory science (MLS) or another clinical laboratory specialty certificate with six years of clinical laboratory experience, including four years post-degree
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological science with seven years of clinical laboratory experience, including five years post-degree
  • Master's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology with two years of clinical laboratory experience post-degree
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving ability
  • Highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently
  • Human relations skills to influence and motivate others
  • ASCP certification or other relevant certification may be required depending on the laboratory specialty

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high complexity testing in specific laboratory areas such as Bacteriology, Virology, Clinical Microbiology, Molecular Technologies, and Histocompatibility/transplantation
  • Experience in clinical cytogenetics
